Star Trek DS9 Episode 28 - Necessary Evil

"When Quark is shot, Odo re-opens a five-year-old murder case of Mr. Vaatrik who was a Cardassian collaborator."


This was the one case that Odo could not solve. He suspected the wife of Vaatrik because she admitted that her husband was having an affair with a Bajoran woman ... Kira! And she may have killed him because she was pissed off. But he couldn't prove it.


Meanwhile in recent day. Quark was shot retrieving a list of Cardassian collaborators from Mr. Vaatrik's strongbox. The shooter takes the list (and plans to use it as blackmail). Quark barely survives, but the shooter comes back to smother him in his hospital bed. Rom walks in and saves his brother by screaming. Odo then captures him and the entire plot is revealed. The only things is, Odo still doesn't know who originally killed Vaatrik.


In the end, Kira admits to Odo that she was not romantically involved with Vaatrik, but rather she was sent to kill him by the Bajorans. She was the murderer all along.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 27 - Rules of Acquisition

I'm still not maxed out on these Ferengi themed episodes. I always find them to be entertaining. This one is a bit strange however. It's interesting because we delve a bit into Ferengi culture, particularly their treatment of women. Ferengi women have no rights, are not allowed to work or even leave the house and must always be naked. They also do not have lobes. So this Ferengi women disguises herself as a male and joins Quark as a partner. She is really good at business deals and soon enters into a business proposition with Quark and Grand Nagus.

She falls in love with Quark and tries to make out with him. Quark is not too interested, but also doesn't really resist. Even though Quark still thinks that it is a male???? Just at this moment another alien walks in and catches them. Now he thinks that Quark is doing gay stuff! It was very Three's Company.

Finally, the Nagus finds out that this is a woman and he freaks out. Its all pretty funny. But adds nothing to the shows development.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 26 - Melora

 Malroa is an Ensign from a low gravity planet. Her body is incompatible with the DS9 gravity. So she has to be in a wheelchair?? Thus setting up the plot that she is "crippled" and must face all of the challenges of a handicapped person. Including having the annoying attitude and irritating defense mechanisms. This episode played into every stereotype and I'm surprised that most people didn't find it to be down right offensive.


Anyway, Bashir ends up falling for her. And they sort of hook up. He then creates a "cure" that allows her to walk. Meanwhile a former business partner of Quark has arrived on DS9, looking to murder Quark. The two plots collide when this guy takes Quark, Dax and Malora hostage. In the end Malora basically saves the day. I really didn't enjoy this one. Although the "would be murderer" did have a nose like a penis, that was at least funny.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 25 - Cardassians

During the war between the Cardassians and the Bjorans, many Cardassian children evidently become orphaned on Bajor. So Bajorian families took them in. Garak discovers one such child on DS9 and it turns out that this kid is racist against his own people. The Bajoran family seemingly raised him this way. So far I'm liking the idea of this episode. Seems interesting. But then it has to take a ridiculous turn.


The kids real father shows up (named Pa'Dar) and his son keeps calling him a butcher. So come to find out that Gul Dukat is a political enemy of Pa'Dar and he "planted" Pa'Dars own son in order to humiliate Pa'Dar. Something like that. Such a stretch.


The saving grace was that Pa'dar was played by Robert Mandan. Who I remember from seemingly every Game Show from the late 70s to the mid 80s.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 24 - Invasive Procedures

An angry Trill named Verard boards the station with the intention of stealing the symbiont from Dax. The trill was rejected as a host and now he is pissed off. Him and his henchmen force Bashir to transfer the symbiont from Dax to himself. Within hours Jadzia (formerly Dax) will die. Also DS9 is caught in a plasma storm and the space station must be evacuated. Again, Rom screws Quark by stealing his escape pod.


Now the symbiont is in a new host. The thing is, it's still the same "person" just in a different shell. Now that "Dax" is back to being a man, Sisko seems less awkward around his old friend. But, I guess they realize that it is wrong to let Jadzia die so the symbiot has to be returned to her body. Sisko eventually shoots Verard and Bashir gets the symbiot back into it's original host. But does it really matter what the symbiont looks like? It's the same "being" no matter what!!

Star Trek DS9 Episode 23 - The Siege

Now DS9 is being attacked. Sisko orders everyone to evacuate. Quark is shrewdly selling seats on the transport, but finds out that his brother Rom has sneakily sold Quarks seat. Well done Rom. Quark freaks out as he realizes that there are no seats left and he will be stuck on the station...very Titanic.

Kira and Dax escape to a Bajoran moon to pick up an old star fighter, which they will use to get onto Bajor.The main crew decides to stay on DS9 and fight. Kiko is pissed at Miles for choosing work over his family. Odo helps the crew hide by using his shapeshifting ability. They go around the station and subdue the terrorists. Finally they capture one of the Circles top Colonel's ... it's Steven Weber! Evidently at some point he flew an airplane from Nantucket and into a wormhole.

They tell him about the Cardassian involvement in the plot. Eventually they convince all of the others, including the leader General Krim, about Cardassian involvement. Meanwhile Kira and Dax get into Winn's temple on Bajor and convince her of the same thing. The Circle stops their assault in order to reassess their organization. Suddenly Steven Weber tries to assassinate Sisko, Li Nalas jumps in the way and takes the "bullet", saving Sisko's life.

Wow, lot going on in these three episodes. I'm not one for a long story arc, but this one was pretty good. Lots of character growth, across the board from Kira to Rom, and tons of action. Well done.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 22 - The Circle

Part 2 of a 3 part story arc. So now Nalas has taken over for Kira on DS9. He doesn't really want to be there. Meanwhile Kira is back on Bajor working on a farm for some reason. She is with this creepy guy named Bareil ... he shows her his orb and she has an orgasm. The Circle is beginning to take over Bajor. Odo turns into an actual rat and hides on a freighter trying to get some info on them.


Kira gets kidnapped by The Circle. Quark uses his contacts to find out where she is being hidden, Sisko and the others go on a rescue mission and bring her back to DS9. Odo has learned that The Circle have built a powerful weapon (with the help of the Cardassians...for some reason) and will use it to take total control of Bajor. Also come to find out that the Prophet Winn is in on this as well.


A group of Bajor ships begin to assault DS9. Sisko seeks help from the Federation but they refuse, citing that it would go against The Prime Directive. Some how???


This episode was very action packed and it also showed a great solidarity between the DS9 crew. This seems like a real turning point in the series.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 21 - The Homecoming

Quark gives Kira a Bajoran earring and she notices that it once belonged to a great Bajoran warhero named Li Nalas (he's good but he's no Li Emneeson). She tracks the origin of the jewelry to a secret Cardassian labor camp full of Bajorans.

Meanwhile, O'Brien discovers graffiti on the station that references "The Circle", which is an extremist Bajoran. They have started to take over Bajor with the intention of purging it of any non Bajorans.

Anyway, Kira and O'Brien go to this labor camp (pretending to be a pimp and prostitute) and they break Li Nalas out. The Cardassians then apologize for the labor camp and let everyone go. Li Nalas comes home to quit the fanfare and is eventually named to replace Kira on DS9 by the Bajorian high command. I'm not a huge Kira fan, but this guy is friggin tool.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 20 - In the Hands of the Prophets

Episode 20 already! Season One is over. It ends on an odd note too. This episode is all about religion, religious fanaticism and religion in schools. So this Bajoran religious leader named Winn comes to DS9 (played by the great great great Louise Fletcher). She gets really pissed to find out that Kiko O'Brien is teaching the science of the wormhole and not the religious aspect of the wormhole. Eventually someone blows up the school. Hmmm I wonder what the message is in this episode? Stop preaching politics to me DS9 will you!!


It was sort of like watching Do the Right Thing but in space.


Anyway, whatever. Season One of DS9 was very solid, much better than season one of TNG.


I have grown to like Kira slightly more, Dax still remains rather boring, Odo has become one of my favorites, Sisko is ok but I like him better when he gets fat and bald, I love all of the Ferengi's...I think they make the show, Bashir sucks, Miles O'Brien is turning more into Colm Meaney and less into Miles O'Brien ... which is great. And that is it. Go away.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 19 - Duet

Kira confronts a Cardassian that was responsible for the atrocities at Gallitep. This is where the Cardassian's massacred a bunch of Bajorans. There was not much to this episode visually but it showed really solid character development for Major Kira. She starts off hating this guy, but then she realizes that he was a silent observer and even though he did not speak-out she noticed how traumatized he was by it and she felt bad. I'm sure there is much more to say about this episode as it was a very serious and emotional one ... but I got nothing.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 18 - Dramatis Personae

"In this episode, a "telepathic infection" sets the crew into two factions fighting against each other, with Major Kira leading the mutiny"


A damaged Klingon vessel enters DS9 carrying an infection that makes everyone hostile. Odo isn't affected and he manages to figure out the problem. He convinces Bashir to make a cure and everyone is saved...hooray!


I liked this episode because I feel that it showed an accurate depiction of "who would be with who" during an actual mutiny. It still feels like Kira does not trust Sisko ... or anyone else for that matter. But the best part was when Kira beats the shit out of Quark.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 17 - The Forsaken

Who is calling for more Lwaxana Troi episodes?? No way she has any type of fan base. It's the same plot every single time too ... she tries to get laid. This time the object of her hornyness is Odo. At first he resists, but then he becomes interested. They eventually get stuck in a turbolift together and Odo begins to turn into his natural self ... liquid. Lwaxana feels bad and offers to give him her wig for comfort. Then he turns to liquid in her lap. What a fucked up episode. The name of the episode, The Forsaken ... who is the forsaken? Is it Odo, for having to be trapped with this old scarecrow?

Star Trek DS9 Episode 16 - If Wishes Were Horses

All of the Star Trek series seem to have that episode were imagination comes to life. So here is the DS9 version. An alien culture comes through the wormhole seeking to experience imagination ... or something like that. Anyway, Rumpelstiltskin and Buck Bokai come to life. That's basically it. It was a fun episode. And it's nice to see that MLB finally gets the steroid problem under control, because Buck Bokai is like five foot tall and 250 pounds of pure fat.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 15 - Progress

The Federation is helping Bajor tap into the core of one of its moons. Somehow this will release much needed electricity for Bajoran use. It will also release toxic gas that will kill anyone on the moon. There are humanoid inhabitants living here and they have been ordered to leave. Kira is sent to help remove the last remaining farmer, who is determined to stay. She begins to sympathize with him, but in the end she is reminded by Sisko that she has a duty ... and she burns down the guys home! What the hell is up with this episode? Is the Federation some kind of Totalitarian Government?? Forcing people from their homes for the sake of government projects is just garbage. I am guessing that most common people typically dislike the idea of imminent domain, but it seems like this episode was trying to point out that sometimes its necessary for the government to kick you out of your home and burn it down. Also the guy just wants to die, so just let him die! Stop controlling everything. Friggin' Federation. Also the name of the episode, Progress? Literally, zero progress made in this episode.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 14 - The Storyteller

You got two plots going on here. One on DS9 involves Nog trying to get into some girls pants. (I actually like Nog, the kid is a good actor). The second one involves Bashir and Miles. They are down on this planet, every once in a while some cloud monster shows up and kills people in the village ... in fact it's sort of like that movie The Village. The only way to stop it is by telling it a story. So the king is about to tell the story and but he dies, before he croaks he tells the story to Miles who then recites it and saves everyone. They make him king. He is highly annoyed. The episode was not great, but it did have a very TOS feel to it which I enjoyed.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 13 - Battle Lines

"The spiritual leader of Bajor, Kai Opaka, travels with Sisko on a trip to the Gamma Quadrant but is stranded with him on a world where the dead are resurrected."


I hate looking at Kai Opaka, she is so disturbing looking. She gets stranded on this planet with Sisko and some others. They drop right in the middle of a war between two peoples. The ironic thing is that nobody on this planet can die, so the war never ends. The best part of the episode was the performance of Jonathan Banks aka Mike from Breaking Bad. The funny things was that he played the part of this alien in the same way that he played the character Mike ... a tough guy with a New York accent???

Star Trek DS9 Episode 12 - Vortex

"Odo discovers he may not be the only one of his kind when a visitor from the Gamma Quadrant claims he can contact Odo's people."

This visitor shows up on the space station, kills a guy and steals a "shape shifting" piece of material. He convinces Odo that he knows where others like him are, so Odo ends up going with him to a planet where this visitor uses the device too free his daughter from captivity. Instead of taking the guy to space prison for murder, Odo lets him escape.

I swear that on Star Trek they have met many shape shifters throughout all of the series. Why is Odo such a mystery? I just don't get it.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 11 - The Nagus

Yeah, another Quark episode. I love the character but I hope they don't wear him out in season one. This episode was funny funny stuff. I would watch a Ferengi spin off of this group, its like the Three Stooges but not as ugly. The only thing is that, in this episode it is horribly evident that the Ferengi are supposed to be a Jewish stereotype. It seriously seems very Anti-Semitic. Anyway, funny stuff.


Quark gets named the Grand Nagus (head of all Ferengi) and his brother Rom tries to kill him. In the end Quark wasn't really named Nagus, it was all sham and he ends up actually respecting his brother Rom.


Rom is another good character, he is such a friggin dope. They do a really cool scene where they mimic the opening to The Godfather.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 10 - Move Along Home

"Quark is forced to play a game by the Wadi, a newly encountered species, and the lives of the crew depend on the outcome. "


This episode was awesome. Only because I love the movie Jumanji and this episode was basically Jumanji in space. So Quark is stuck playing this game and the crew are trapped as pawns. One bad move and it could be death for Sisko and the others. Quark begins to crack under the pressure and finally has a nervous breakdown, which is pretty funny. In the end he loses the game and his players all "die", but not really because it was only a game. Anyway, I thought this episode was a lot of fun.

Star Trek DS9 Episode 9 - The Passenger

A criminal entity hides in the body of Dr. Bashir. There is a Guard that is tracking this criminal and she follows him to DS9, but loses track when he hides within the Doctors mind. Quark is dealing with this criminal trying to help him escape...not because Quark is malicious but because he is greedy. Just when you think Quark is on the side of the good guys, he always shows his true colors. Anyway, in the end the extract the criminals consciousness from Bashir and destroy it.
