Star Trek VGR Episode 113 - The Fight

Voyager is stuck in an area of space were physics doesn't apply...or something. Chakotay starts having a vision quest where he is a boxer??? For the rest of the episode he drifts back and forth between reality and his boxing match vision. He finally figures out that in his vision an alien is trying to contact him and give him coordinates to lead Voyager out of that area of space. They must be running out of episode ideas at this point. Although Ray Walston (My Favorite Martian) is in this one and he is always great when he makes these Trek appearances.

Star Trek VGR Episode 112 - Course: Oblivion

Weird ass episode. So it starts off with Paris and Torres getting married and the announcement that they are now two years away from home. Then suddenly the ship starts to fail and disease breaks out, slowly killing everyone. The Doctor figures out that they must reach a Class Y "Demon Planet" (much like the one they went to a few episodes back) in order to stabilize everything. Eventually almost everyone dies. Kim acting as Captain sends out a distress call and it is received ... by Voyager! Evidently when they went to the Demon Planet the first time, it created an entire replica of Voyager. Now this replica is basically turning into space ooze. By the time the real Voyager reaches the fake Voyager, it is nothing but liquid. So many questions. So Torres and Paris really didn't get married and they are not two years from home? The entire time there has been another Voyager flying around doing random exploring and shit? I guess I only had two questions. And they are really not even questions. Whatever.

Star Trek VGR Episode 111 - The Disease

"Kim finds love when the crew encounter a Varro generational ship that needs assistance repairing its warp drive."

The episode is literally about Kim having sex with an alien and getting an STD. Meanwhile parasites are attacking the ship, Kim saves the day and ends up "cured" of his love sickness. Still Janeway reprimands him for violating Starfleet regulations against interspecies relations.

This episode has both Charles Rocket and the Giant Praying Mantis teacher from Buffy in it.

Star Trek VGR Episode 110 - Dark Frontier pt 2

7 ends up with the infamous Borg Queen. Who looks like a spider, which I always found strange. She is played by the woman that plays Moira Queen on Arrow, coincidence?? Probably. The Queen reveals that the Borg purposely allowed Voyager to take 7 in order to infiltrate the humans.  7 is now struggling with turning back to the Borg side or becoming human again. Which I'm honestly getting tired of, this "struggle" has been going on for multiple seasons at this point. The Borg plan on releasing nanoprobes in Earths atmosphere that will assimilate everyone. It ends with a big battle and 7 being saved by Janeway. They retrieve the Borg tech and end up 15 years closer to home. 7 also sees her parents, now Borg. This episode has one of the greatest guest appearances ever.... Ug from Salute Your Shorts!

Star Trek VGR Episode 109 - Dark Frontier pt 1

"Janeway plans to steal a transwarp coil from a disabled Borg ship to shorten their journey home. Seven of Nine experiences memories of her past just before she and her parents are assimilated and plans to re-join the Borg collective."

This was originally aired as one full-length two hour episode. I have not enjoyed much about 7 of 9 thus far, but this episode was good. I always enjoy origin episodes anyway, so I liked seeing how 7 ended up with the Borg as a child. Her parents were somewhat fascinated by the Borg and ended up severely underestimating how dangerous they are. Now on Voyager, 7 goes on a mission to retrieve technology from a disabled Borg ship. While there, she is called by the hive and ends up going back to them...

Star Trek VGR Episode 108 - Bliss

Voyager gets lured into a giant telepathic space Venus Flytrap. It's not as dumb as it sounds. I like the idea of a creature like this. It uses its telepathy to trick your mind into thinking that it is "something good". For instance, it tricks the crew into believing that it is a wormhole home. Only 7 and Naomi are wise to it. They eventually hook up with an alien that has been hunting this creature and with the aid of The Doctor they defeat the thing. I did not realize what a major character Naomi ends up being, and the character is well acted too.

The Doctor keeps saying "I'm a Doctor, not a ...". He has done this in several past episodes. The first time it was sort of cool, but now it's just obnoxious.

Star Trek VGR Episode 107 - Gravity

Tuvok and Paris crash on a planet stuck in a pocket of subspace, where they meet a female named Noss. A simple episode, but a good one. There have not been many Tuvok themed episodes, which is a shame because he is one of the better characters. This one flashes back to Tuvok as a youth during his Vulcan training. We see that he was somewhat rebellious and he wishes that he was not Vulcan. These feeling come up again as he starts to fall for this woman that they find on this Tatooine-like planet. Also, Noss is played by the woman that was Tank Girl (she was sort of terrible in this episode though).

Star Trek VGR Episode 106 - Bride of Chaotica!

"Voyager becomes stuck on an interdimensional rift as photonic beings from the other dimension attempt contact in the holodeck, meeting the photonic villains of Lt. Paris' "Captain Proton" program who promptly attack them"

I probably failed to mention that for several episodes now Paris has been using a holodeck program named "Captain Proton". It is an early 20th Century black and white sci-fi adventure, cool but it ain't no Captain EO. The episode is nearly entirely done within this program (all in black and white). The crew must defeat these beings by playing out the roles within this cheezy old sci-fi flick. It is actually very well done and visually interesting. I realized that I say "interesting" a lot. I'm sure none of this is interesting at all, I just can't think of another word. Maybe I will look in a thesaurus next time or something.

Star Trek VGR Episode 105 - Latent Image

The Doctor can't remember the past 15 hours. Everyone on the ship is keeping this time period from him as well. Seems that he lost a patient and suffered a breakdown. Janeway had his memory erased from this time. They struggle to decide weather to give the Doctor this time back or not. Finally they decide that if he is to "grow" then he needs to face his guilt. In the end the Doctor reads from La Vita Nuova, a text from the 13th century. He is Living La Vita Nuova.

Star Trek VGR Episode 104 - Counterpoint

While passing through Devore space, Voyager is routinely searched for telepaths.
In this region of space telepathy is illegal. Voyager find a group of telepath refugees and agree to hide them from the Devore. They disguise their telepathy using teleporter buffers ... or something like that. A guy named Kashyk offers to help get the refugees to safety but he ends up being a double agent. Janeway eventually tricks him and sends the refugees to safety in shuttlecrafts. Much safer than sailing a shity raft across a sea.

Star Trek VGR Episode 103 - Thirty Days

The episode starts with Paris being sent to the brig for 30 days. Then he flashes back to what lead to this... Voyager encounters an ocean planet. It is a weird concept, a giant ocean floating in space ... but at the same time it is extremely creative and intriguing. The visuals were excellent and I really enjoyed when the Delta Flyer goes under the ocean. It is very "SeaQuest". So basically this "planet" is losing water at an alarming rate and Paris goes to help them figure out the issue. He finds out that it is the government that has been drilling in the ocean for mining purposes ... they refuse to stop. Paris wants Janeway to force them but she will not because of The Prime Directive. So Paris takes it upon himself to save the planet.

Star Trek VGR Episode 102 - Nothing Human

"A wounded alien is brought on board from a stranded vessel and attaches itself to B'Elanna Torres."

Such a TOS throwback. Voyager responds to a distress call and find a wounded alien that looks like a big scorpion. It jumps off the table and laches onto Bianna's neck. It looks very "old Star Trek", as in tacky, but I really liked it. It begins to suck the life from Torres. The Doctor summons the help of a Cardassian hologram physician who was knowledgeable about this. Nobody trusts him because Cardassians are considered villainous, even Torres would rather die than receive his medical assistance.

An Ensign suddenly proclaims that the physician is actually a war criminal. The Doctor eventually finds this to be true. This Cardassian physician experimented on living people. This reminded me of a documentary that I watched on a Japanese doctor during WWII that did autopsies on living people ... no anesthetic! Now the question is posed; does he let the hologram help or not ... even though he is a war criminal he is also just a hologram of the original man. Also, should the Doctor shut down this program forever?

Star Trek VGR Episode 101 - Infinite Regress

7 of 9 begins suffering multiple personality disorder. In fact, Jeri Ryan was actually decent in this episode. So the plot is that Species 6339 initiated a virus that destroys technology. It infiltrated the Borg Cube at some point, so 7 had this virus as well. The find Species 6339 and ask them for the cure but they resist. Tuvok helps her with a mind-meld and Torres cures her by destroying the virus. During the mind-meld it looks like Tuvok is at a rave or something, so dumb looking.

Star Trek VGR Episode 100 - Timeless

"Fifteen years in the future, Chakotay and Harry Kim attempt to prevent the Voyager from crash-landing on an ice planet."

Captain LaForge, need I say more? I guess I do. So Kim and Chakotay take the Delta Flyer into a slipstream, Voyager follows behind. This, in theory, should bring them significantly closer to home. Unfortunately, things go wrong. Fast-forward 15 years. Kim and Chakotay find the crashed remains of Voyager on a snow planet. They discover 7's body as well as the Doctor (whom they take with them). Chakotay and Kim have been shunned by Starfleet and are now space outlaws. Soon they are followed by a Starship and are confronted by Captain LaForge! Very cool. He says that Starfleet is aware that Kim and Chakotay are trying to alter the past in order to save Voyager. He warns them of the dangers.

Kim does not heed the warning and sends himself a message in the past. The message is received by 7's implant. She suddenly changes calculations before they go into the slipstream. They survive this time and end up 10 years closer to home. Kim then discovers a video message from his future self, to his present self. Crazy. One thing that I enjoy about Voyager is how they keep discovering and inventing new technology along their way. Also the "crash scene" is very well done.
