Star Trek DS9 Episode 91 - Hard Time

"O'Brien's mind has been altered to create memories of being incarcerated for 20 years on an alien world on charges of espionage and sedition."

It feels like O'Brien has his mind messed with at least once every season. The idea of implanting memories into a convicts mind instead of actually sending them to prison is an interesting concept. It's just that this episode didn't execute the plot very well. Like, it doesn't even make sense why O'Brien was convicted of espionage in the first place. Also, it seemed to make him worse. When he gets back to DS9 he starts acting like an emotionally fucked up ex-convict. How is that going to make society any better? They should have went all out and make O'Brien come out of "prison" acting like Easy-E.

Yeah, this makes no sense whatsoever. Presumably, if you had mastered this level of brain manipulation, you could just brainwash the treason out of somebody.

Yes! Why brainwash them into being convicts, when you can just manipulate their minds into "not being criminals" in the first place.

Oh yeah! This episode! I loved this one, until you two ruined it for me with your logic.

This episode is kind of the counter to Inner Light from Next Gen, as though the writers were like, "Think it was all romantic and sweet when Picard lived that fake life? No, it would really be horrific and awful."
